WEVCA is founded in Istanbul to Innovate, Unite, and Inspire European Women’s Volleyball
Comprising 12 elite European clubs, the newly established Association aims to strengthen the women’s volleyball movement across the continent.
Istanbul (Turkey), May 2, 2025 – On the occasion of the 2024–25 CEV Champions League Final Four, the Women’s European Volleyball Club Association (WEVCA) was officially founded on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the Sheraton Atasehir Istanbul. Legally headquartered in Bülach, Switzerland, the Association brings together 12 of the most prestigious women’s volleyball clubs in Europe, with the goal of enhancing cooperation among top-tier clubs, sports institutions, and a rapidly growing fanbase.
Ferkan Merdan and Alp Tolga Simsek represented VakifBank Istanbul at the founding meeting, along with Erdal Karamercan and Bilun Gunal for Eczacıbaşı, Paolo Nocentini and Sandra Leoncini for Scandicci, Aldo Fumagalli for Vero Volley, Hulusi Belgu for Fenerbahçe, Nesva Buyukbayram for Galatasaray, and Stav Jacobi for Volero Le Cannet. Joining via video conference were Zuzanna Biarylak for Łódź, Asuman Bas for Türk Hava Yolları, Rafal Mardoń for Rzeszów, and Sylvia Zatti for Mulhouse.
In addition to the approval of the Statute, the institutional roles within the Board were appointed: Erdal Karamercan, Aldo Fumagalli, Rafal Marcin, and Stav Jacobi. The presidency of the Association was entrusted to Aldo Fumagalli, who, together with Erdal Karamercan, will lead WEVCA in pursuing its mission at the European level.

A shared vision for the future of Women’s Volleyball
WEVCA was founded with the ambition of building a European women’s volleyball ecosystem that is sustainable, competitive, and fully integrated into the global sports landscape. Among the Association’s core objectives:
- Institutional Dialogue: To serve as the official interlocutor with the CEV (European Volleyball Confederation), FIVB (International Volleyball Federation), and other governing bodies, contributing to the development of shared strategies and sustainable calendars.
- Club Development: To enhance the role of clubs in athlete development, fanbase growth, and high-quality sports content production.
- Commercial Growth: To collaborate with institutions and partners to make women’s volleyball increasingly attractive to investors, sponsors, and broadcasters—drawing inspiration from successful models in football and basketball.
- Women’s Empowerment in Sport: To promote volleyball as a platform for female expression, leadership, and equal opportunities in sport.
- Innovation and Sustainability: To initiate joint projects that raise technical, organizational, and environmental standards across the sport, with a focus on digitalization, inclusiveness, and social impact.
The logo
The stars are a symbol of Europe and represent the elite volleyball clubs of the continent. Uniquely, they have six points, reflecting the six players on the court.
The stripes on the ball and the “cloud” of stars convey the motion and dynamism of our organization.
